Emma Goldmann “Red Emma” (June 27, 1869 – May 14, 1940) was an anarchist political activist and writer. She played a pivotal role in the development of anarchist political philosophy in North America and Europe in the first half of the 20th century.
Amsterdam Alternative is an independent, bi-monthly newspaper that deals with social, political, environmental, and creative topics that concern our city. For the May-June 2019 issue, I wrote an article about Emma Goldman and her life, accompanied with an illustration.

“La voz de le mujer. Ni Dios, in patrĂ³n, ni marido.” (The Woman’s Voice. No god, no master, no husband.) Virginia Bolten (1870 – 1960) was an Argentine journalist as well as an anarchist and feminist activist of German descent. A gifted orator, she is considered a pioneer in the struggle for women’s rights in Argentina. Bolten is responsible for the publication of a newspaper called La Voz de la Mujer.
